    Joke of the Month

    Fixing a Leak
Three contractors were touring the White House on the same day.

One was from New York, another from Missouri, and the third from Florida. At the end of the tour, the guard asked them what they did for a living. When they each replied that they were contractors, the guard said, "Hey the roof for the security office is leaking. Why don't you guys take a look at it and give me your bids."

First the Florida contractor took out his tape measure and pencils, did some measuring and said, "I figure the job will run about $900 - $400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Next was the Missouri contractor. He also took out his tape measure and pencil, did some quick calculations and said, "Looks like I can do this job for $700 - $300 for materials, $300 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Finally, the guard asks the New York contractor for his bid. Without batting an eye, the contractor says, "$2700."

The guard, incredulous, looks at him and says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"

"Easy," says the contractor from New York, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Missouri."

    New Items

The Shingle Shear from Howard Tools Inc.
Roofline has spent a great deal of time  finding the best shingle cutter on the market. From what we can see, this is it!

The Shingle Shear from Howard Tools, Inc. weighs just 16lbs thanks to it’s all aluminum deck making it easy to carry around in one hand. The ShingleShear features a tape measure with an extension inlaid into the deck. The 20” removable blades are easily re-sharpened or replaced. It comes with an adjustable, removable rip fence which will cut the shingle lengthwise for starter. The rubber feet and swing out anchor firmly,  keeping it in place on steeper slope roofs. One of the Shingle Shear’s nicest features is the inlaid pitch gauge. This allows you quick and easy cuts for valleys and hips.

Come on in and try one out.  We have one on the showroom floor for demonstrations.

    Monier Lifetile
Lightweight tile has been discontinued and is out of stock. Heavy-weight is still readily available.

    Visqueen
    We’re now carrying 20 x 50 clear Visqueen.

    Business Tips for Better Profitability

    Getting paid for your work.
Do not extend credit unless absolutely necessary.  If you do extend credit, establish credit policies to guide you, determining when and who you extend credit to. Provide an invoice to your customer as promptly as possible after work is completed. Don’t be afraid to communicate with your customer via telephone, letter, or email. Most importantly, always be polite, but firm.

    Customer relations: your primary commodity.
The first sale you make in  every transaction is yourself.  The customer is sold on you, and believes in your reputation, before he purchases any product or service from you.

You may think that once you move onto the next roof, your relationship with that customer is over. In reality, your reputation, and the referral you receive as a result from a job well done, are one of your most important commodities. Follow up calls are critical to maintaining those important relationships.

    Product Updates

    Genflex

    Dec-Tec
In case you aren't in the know, Dec-Tec is a textured reinforced PVC roofing material designed for decks. They have discontinued the Teal color. Due to demand we will stock the Bronze and Granite colors. While supplies last, we do have Teal, Brick, and Opal in stock.
